Lake Murray is a special place located inside La Mesa. The physical lake has a lovely path that goes around it that is about 4 miles. There are people frequenting it catching some rays on rollerblades, bikes, and of course walking or jogging. People often are fishing on this quiet lake where many goose, duck and other wildlife nestle. The Lake Murray path is paved however there are plenty of trails within the area to that are not paved and that wind their way up the local mountains and hills. There is also a golf course on the north side of the lake that is always busy.
Mission Trails lives up to its title because it has trails to run/hike/bike in almost every direction. There is Cowels Mountain inside Mission Trails Regional Park that boasts itself as the tallest point in San Diego County. It is only 1.05 miles long however there are 25 switchbacks to get your heartrate going. When you reach the top you can see from Mount Helix to Tijuana, to La Jolla. It is truly a glorious site and a great way to congratulate yourself on the grueling hike. It is really unique to San Diego area in that there are so many outdoors things to do.
There is also a community college in the area called Grossmont College that offers a variety of courses for the students and the community. Many classes here are free for San Diego's inhabitants. On Lake Murray Boulevard there are many apartments/condos/townhomes for rent. There is also many retired group homes which also attracts some of the best breakfast dining in the city.
If you are a person that needs a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, and loves to be moving around exploring outdoors then Lake Murray is a perfect location for you.

The morning crowds seem to be well fed in Lake Murray. There is drive-thru Starbucks at the entrance of Lake Murray Park as well as Lake Murray Care where they fry up all of the hometown food, cafe style. Gold Coast Bagels is a wonderful bagel/coffee shop that have a regular crowd as well as Coco's Bakery. As far as night life, it is non exhistant unless you consider a beer run to Vons a good time.
Great value of rental prices. No where else in San Diego will you find as many trails to run/hike/bike without paying a hefty price tag. These apartments are affordably priced as well.
There are places in the area that you could keep your car parked for the weekend. You can walk to most necessities however you still are in San Diego County which is known to struggle with it's public transportation. It is a couple of miles from the trolley however the bus system does travel through here. There is never any parking issues in Lake Murray area except at the college during peak hours.
The freeways near Lake Murray are I-8 and I-125
One of the best areas to own a dog because of all of the places to take them outdoors. There are strict leash laws in San Diego and La Mesa Counties that are always in effect and being enforced.
Anything that involves the sun and no snow! No skiing however there is rowing, fishing, hiking, running, biking, golfing, and rollerblading in this area.
Lake Murray Boulevard has it all. Starbucks, Vons, Ross, Big Lots, Jiffy Lube, etc. Navajo also has many shopping options.
There is Fresh and Easy Grocery store on Navajo, Wells Fargo and Washington Mutual, and on Lake Murray Blvd there is Vons. There is a LA Fitness by Navajo, next to Grossmont College. There is also an excellent yoga studio named A Gentle Way Yoga on Baltimore as well.
There are many pre-schools in the area and churches. This is a great area to raise a family because it is very safe.
