Overview
(edit)
Southwest Sacramento is a kaleidoscope of ethnic and cultural diversity. This primarily suburban area, having shared boundaries on 3 sides with downtown Sacramento, is well balanced with shopping centers, small neighborhoods with affordable housing, and international flare and flavors including an Asian marketplace and many other international shops and eateries. There are mainly single family dwellings in the area between Interstate 5 to the west, but from I-5 to the bend in the American River there is a little "pocket" of upper middle, middle, and lower middle classes of families from a diverse array of racial and ethnic backgrounds.
About 10 minutes with awful traffic will get you into the heart of downtown Sacto, but this southwestern region is home to many of its own parks, a lake, and Sacramento's Executive Airport. Some areas are great for families, and others not really, but in all, this region offers a pretty wide array of things to do and for just about anybody.
