(edit)

Located in Placer County along the eastern edge of the Sacramento Valley at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills, Roseville is a mere 16 miles from Sacramento, the state capital. What began as a town created by disappointed gold miners from the famous Gold Rush, Roseville has grown into a thoroughly developed and independent city.
Roseville's parks and recreation programs and educational systems make Roseville an amazing place to raise a family. Abundant recreational programs, numerous neighborhood parks, wonderful golf courses, state-of-the-art fitness centers and thousands of acres of open space provide a great way for every one of all ages to soak in the warm California sun.
So whether you prefer the fine wineries of Napa, the outdoor activities of Lake Tahoe and Folsom Lake or the city life of San Francisco, Roseville is within driving distance of the best that California has to offer.

I lived in Roseville for 3 years and now that I have moved away appreciate it much more. There is great shopping, too many great restaurants to mention and a low crime rate so I felt very safe there.
Even though it's close to Sacramento I only needed to go there for the airport or concerts, but other than that Roseville has everything you need. The cost of living is quite high but you get convenience with that price.

Roseville sits near I-80 and also has a very active and reliable bus system, the Roseville Transit system. $1.50 for a ride.
There is close freeway access for most areas. Only drawback is for those commuting to Sacramento how HWY 80 bottlenecks once you enter Placer County/Roseville City lines. This may internally destroy you, but many other Rosevillians are used to it. If your exit is after the Auburn/Riverside exit you better take a deeeep breath, but they are finally taking some means to make this a smoother transition.
Airport is about 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic.
A stop at the Magic Circle Theater is a must for any live theater enthusiast, or live music can be heard at Roseville's famous Music in the Park while families enjoy the outdoors with a picnic. During the summer, Downtown Tuesday Nights allow residents to mix and mingle with different vendors and live bands all along the historic Old Town Vernon Street. Other avenues of family fun include Golfland Sunsplash, spending a day at Denio's Farmers Market & Swap Meet (Roseville's largest outdoor open market), or browsing through one of Roseville's museums.
