Phoenixville, Pennsylvania is a borough located 28 miles outside of of Philadelphia. A small town in both area and population, as of last census there were almost 15,000 residents. Situated on the Schuylkill River, Phoenixville was once known as a very important shipping and manufacturing center. Most of the mills, factories and riverside warehouses built during the towns industrial heyday in the early 1900s are now on the historical registry.
Housing options in Phoenixville include new and old, affordable and expensive and come in a variety of sizes and architectural styles. Most Phoenixville apartments are quite affordable, especially the older complexes.
Due to the historical nature of Phoenixville, there aren't a lot of new apartments and condos. The ones that are available can be quite expensive, but often come with all of the modern amenities that justify the higher rent.
Employment is available in Phoenixville, though many people tend to make the 28 mile commute to Philadelphia for more job opportunities. The major industry in Phoenixville is tourism, due to the very large and famous Historical District located on the Schuylkill River. However, tourism is not the only industry available. Many residents work in healthcare, retail, manufacturing and in the business parks scattered throughout the borough.
Residents with families find Phoenixville apartment living to be very affordable and easy, with many complexes offering large living spaces and child-friendly amenities, such as pools and outdoor areas. Both public and private education is available, though due to the size of the borough, there aren't many options. Even though there are few schools to choose from, the educational options that are available are among the best schools in the area.
Phoenixville is also home to many different activities and festivals. Activities are widely varied, with a balance between indoor and outdoor pursuits. Many residents enjoy golf and tennis, as well as shopping at the unique shops in the historic district. For major entertainment and shopping, Philadelphia is a short distance away. Valley Forge Park and Schulykill River Trails are also nearby. Festivals run the gamut from the quaint to the bizarre. Phoenixville is home to not only the Dogwood Festival, but to an event called Blobfest, named for the movie The Blob, which was filmed in town.
Even though Phoenixville is small, there is no shortage of restaurants, bars, shopping and entertainment choices. The historic district is loaded with many unique shopping, dining and cultural opportunities. Major retailers, grocery stores and other necessities are located throughout the borough, oftentimes in close proximity to most apartment complexes.
Phoenixville, Pennsylvania has managed to maintain its very own identity and sense of community. Affordable apartments, a plethora of activities and family friendly neighborhoods have made this borough a unique, safe place to live and play.
