Overview
(edit)
Desert View is a relatively new neighborhood in the northeast corner of Phoenix that lies next to upscale cities Paradise Valley and Scottsdale. The development of the Desert View area really took off in the 1990's with both upscale homes and retail development attracting urban power couples and young urban families to the area. There are 3 different golf courses in the area and locals hang out at Desert Ridge Marketplace, home to 110 retailers and restaurants. The neighborhood is very close to both the 101 loop and the 51 freeway, making it easy to get into downtown Phoenix or Scottsdale, but plan on experiencing major traffic during morning and evening hours. Public transportation in the area leaves much to be desired. More development for the area is planned in the form of CityNorth, which is touted to offer "all the best aspects of city living." This area could become a pretty self-contained area in terms of employment and urban living if CityNorth attracts the kinds of large corporations and businesses it is currently courting. Major employers in the area include the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, American Express and numerous other retail vendors and restaurants. Executives have a manageable commute to nearby Scottsdale or Phoenix for more employment options. Housing options are numerous here, but plan on paying a bit more to live in a nicer, newer area of Phoenix.

Desert View has been an up and coming neighborhood for the last 10 years or so and tends to attract families and young urban professionals. The area is a really nice area because it is all still fairly new and pretty self-contained when it comes to retail and dining options. Think Paradise Valley or Scottsdale, with less of the snooty attitude.
