With only 9,000 residents, Orange Park Florida is an upper income suburb of Jacksonville. The Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company bought land from the Macintosh Plantation at Laurel Grove just after the Civil War ended. They wanted a small community of farmers and a place for people to get away at a retreat. The median income of the area is $59,000 and the median value of a home is $236,316. The population is 80% white, 11% black, 4% Hispanic, and 2% other.

Just a short ride from Jacksonville, Orange Park offers suburbanites inexpensive living in a beautiful area. There's tremendous opportunity in Duval County for apartment dwellers and job seekers. Although the economy is difficult for everyone, the Jacksonville area has prospered the last 10 years, and should be back on track soon in terms of employment despite the present numbers. You're just 20 minutes from the beach and also very close to the charming old city of St. Augustine. Apartments are everywhere in Orange Park at fabulous rates. You'll pay from $625 to $1500 on the high end. One other great thing is that Florida has no state income tax. However, the downside to this town is the heat. Unless you're at the beach, summertime is stifling. Also, Jacksonville is forever involved in road construction. Traffic can be an issue even though this town is not nearly as congested as Atlanta or L.A. Overall, the culture is southern and quite conservative. Some people even describe it as metropolitan redneck. But, it's a relaxed town with plenty of culture, restaurants, shopping, and activities at the beach.
