Overview
(edit)
Oklahoma City, the state capital of Oklahoma (admitted to the United States in 1907), is bisected by the North Canadian River (recently renamed the Oklahoma River). After flooding for many years, a dam was built in the 1940's to manage flood control. Located in the center of the state, the city has become famous for its oil production as well as its tornadoes. Two Fortune 500 companies call it home (Devon Energy and Chesapeake Energy Corp). In 2008, Forbes magazine named it "The recession proof city in America". With this stable economic market comes excellent values and investments in apartments and residential living. Oklahoma City apartments are considered quite unique with varieties in lofts and condo's (mid and high rise varieties readily available). Oklahoma City maintains an average temperature of 60 degrees. It is home to many livestock yards as well as the Tinker Airforce Base. Employment opportunities and quality educational institutions are the key benefactors of this growing metropolitan area.
