Naples is a beautiful Florida town on the Gulf Coast that lies 100 miles west of Miami and 168 miles south of Tampa. It's primarily a retirement community with about 22,000 residents, most of whom are rich. In fact, the median age is 60. The median income is $83,144, and the median value of a home is $844,600. It's 92% white, 4% black, and 3% Hispanic. Confederate general and U.S. Senator for Kentucky, John Stuart Williams, founded this town in the late 1880s. He and his business partner Walter N. Haldeman loved the climate and decided to name it after the Italian city of Naples.

Clean, organized, and with pristine beaches, Naples is ideal for many people wanting to retire. However, if you are younger than 60, raising a family, and looking for employment, don%u2019t park it Naples. There are no jobs and it%u2019s terribly expensive. Apartment rents aren%u2019t too bad with one-bedrooms around $800. However, owning a home is out of reach for middle incomers no matter how much you hustle. Residents are complimentary of great city services and cleanliness. But, when people come down for the winter, traffic is horrendous. Also, there%u2019s nothing to do here at night especially since the average person eats dinner at 5:00. Sure the weather is great, but seriously. You don%u2019t want to live here if you%u2019re still doing the real life stuff like working and going to PTA meetings.
