Overview
(edit)
Calhoun Isles is a fun and lively neighborhood in south Minneapolis. In the summer this place is alive with action! The heart of the neighborhood is the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Park that includes Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isles, Cedar Lake, and Lake Harriet. With the nearby lakes, walkers, runners, bikers, sailors, and those that just enjoy the outdoors, can be seen throughout the neighborhood either heading to or coming back from the park.
Besides a park buzzing with activity, the neighborhood has wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, and funky places to just relax and have a smoothie or cocktail. The homes and apartments are all historically beautiful, many of which are mansions and impossibly hard to get a chance to live in, but if you do, it certainly is a treat!

Hood Wiki
The people here are young, hip, and beautiful! There are many single people as well as some couples and young families. Mixed in with the younger crowd are some older, very welathy folks who have the luxury of either living in one of the neighborhoods’ gorgeous mansions, or on one of the larger homes on the streets overlooking the lakes—no one can live directly on the lakes as they are part of the city park for all to enjoy!
The social scene is very lively here as it’s loaded with wonderful options in restaurants and bars. In the summer almost every restaurant has an outdoor patio, so eating and watching street traffic is huge! Fabulous restaurants include the eclectic Chino Latino, Figlios, an old standby of the neighborhood, and the artsy Barbette.
The neighborhood certainly does have a chic vibe, however it is not without its pubs and wonderfully fun watering holes. There is however no dance clubs in the area due city ordinances.
The rent will definitely be higher here than other parts of Minneapolis—probably the highest—but compared to NYC and Chicago it's a steal and you'd be living in one of the coolest and best places to live in the city of Minneapolis!
Minneapolis Public Transit has major buses that service this area. Parking and traffic will be a bit crazy and congested! You will likely have to pay for parking here and it’d be best just to get an off street space as looking for parking will take forever. Also by paying for off street you can ensure your car will not be towed during snow emergencies, which happen a lot in Minneapolis during the winter months.
Do note though the congested traffic and parking is the small price you’ll be paying to live in a great area!
Definitely visit this neighborhood and walk around looking for “For Rent” signs. Call and be aggressive to see places right away—obviously don’t be annoying—but if you don’t take initiative you could miss out on some great places at the perfect price!
Most apartments will allow cats; dogs are not as welcome even though the neighborhood is full of dogs. Best to buy a place if you want or have a dog. The lakes do provide the BEST place to bring ol’ Fido for some outdoor fun!
Certainly the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Park is where you will be having your recreational fun! Fours lakes are connected via paths and by water—and the lakes are also connected to the Minnehaha Creek. Such activities that people partake in are running, canoeing, sailing, lazing on the beach, watching the shows in the band shells, rollerblading, and biking. The bike paths are also connected to the Twin Cities Greenway, a bike path that runs throughout the Twin Cities area near the city's old railroads.
Any and every street is ideal in the neighborhood—you really can’t go wrong. However if you do want something quite and not on the main streets avoid the major streets which include Lagoon, Lake St., Hennepin Ave, Franklin, and Lyndale.
This neighborhood offers the major banking institutions, a YMCA, the Lake Calhoun Beach and Athletic Club, Whole Foods, Uptown Rainbow Foods, Lunds Gourmet Foods, and many more essentials!
This neighborhood would be a wonderful place to raise a family as it’s diverse, friendly, and full of energy and culture!
