Overview (edit)

Downtown Miami is the lively pulse of the heavily-populated, multi-cultural metropolis that is Miami, Florida. With its many districts dedicated to commerce, sports, community, arts & culture, Downtown Miami is overflowing with excitement and interests that make for sensory overload. Downtown Miami is located at the southeastern point of the greater Miami area and is well known for its diverse community, fun and abundant nightlife, and Latin atmosphere. Where else can one dance the samba before finishing the night off with drinks and sushi?

Downtown Miami was traditionally known as the city's "Central Business District" due to its having the largest concentration of financial institutions in one area in the U.S.; many of these high-powered banks and credit institutions' skyscrapers overlook the waterfront that is Biscayne Bay to the east. Flagler Street - the main road that cuts a swath through Downtown's popular shopping district - has been witness to the area's growth for nearly two centuries. Downtown's traffic is heavy and many people line the streets, preferring to walk and take in the usually nice weather, as well as utilizing the MetroMover, Downtown Miami's free monorail system that provides excellent public transport service.

As enticing as Downtown Miami is as a place to live, it is mostly reserved for upper-middle class income earners, as real estate does not come cheap in this much sought after real estate market. There are excellent public and private schools here and in surrounding areas. Weather is warm virtually all year, however expect to see some hurricanes at some point, as Miami-Dade County sits precariously in the heart of what has been dubbed "Hurricane Alley".
