Overview
(edit)
Miami, FL is a major city with approximately 1/2 million residents. When included with its immediate surrounding area, it is ranked 4th largest urban area in America. It is home to many international businesses and major cruise ship lines. Miami is famous for its professional sports (basketball, football, baseball, hockey and soccer), colleges (University of Miami and nearby Dade County Community College which is the largest college in America), music (with endless music festivals and professional recording artists), Arts (with many museums and especially the new Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts which is the 2nd largest center in US behind the Lincoln Center in NY) and their unique fashion (which houses many trend cutting shows annually). In 2008, Forbes Magazine ranked Miami as "the Cleanest City in America". Even though Miami is home to many indigent residents and immigrants, a recent UBS study shows Miami as "the richest city in America". Tourism draws more than 12 million people to Miami each year. Its neighborhoods are referred to as North, South, West or Downtown. Each has a rich history of ethnic trends and traditions. Miami experiences a "true tropical" climate with temperatures hot and humid in the summers and warm each winter. Surprisingly, temperatures have NEVER exceeded 98 degrees nor have they ever dropped below 30 degrees as a result of the continual Gulf stream. Miami has always had a "happening, spicey" nightlife as well as a vibrant business environment. Although Miami has experienced tremendous drops in the real estate market from over building during the boom, it is already feeling the recovery with increases in sales and slowdown of foreclosure rates.
