The birthplace of rock and roll legend Buddy Holly, Lubbock is a town that a number of musicians have called home over the years. There are a number of music festivals, rodeos, museums, theatre, sports events, and other events associated with the colleges. Economically, the city is growing and not suffering nearly as bad other places in the country. However, incomes are not particularly high. Apartment dwellers in Lubbock have a lot of choices and reasonable prices. The median rent is $840. So with the low cost of living, Lubbock is a great place in terms of value for your dollars. There's a lot to do, however the culture is conservative. So living here is grounded in more traditional Texas values.
