Overview
(edit)
As far back as 1876, when it was known as Greer's Station, Greer was known as a thriving and reliable trading post. These days, and for the past 50 years, Greer has been known as a place where business and industry flourish. Historically an agricultural center and a town with a thriving textiles industry, today Greer's economy includes the headquarters for Michelin, and North America's only BMW manufacturing facility.
However, this bustling burg is not an industry-choked metropolis. Greer is a small city of 20,000 located in one of the most picturesque regions in the Southeast. Home to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Robinson and such natural wonders as Raven Cliff Falls and Croft State Park, the Upstate is populated by retirees, professional couples, and young families alike. Downtown Greer, known locally as Greer Station, is well known in the region as it boasts twelve square blocks of retail, dining, and entertainment. And to add to the the beauty of the downtown area, Greer Station is made up of more than 40 buildings located on the National Historic Register.
Settled conveniently between Greenville and Spartanburg, and just shy of North's Carolina's Asheville, Greer is wonderful for those commuting, or for those who just love weekend vacations. Being a small city with country living, you will find yourself in dense woods just minutes from town, making it a peaceful and and quiet home for anyone.

The Town of Greer has a nice, but small downtown with a few excellent restaurants and specialty shops. They have an active chamber of commerce, and it seems a dedicated core of citzens who work hard to make continual improvements in the community. Downtown is old and quaint, though many of the buildings are being restored and turned into trendy boutiques, businesses and restaurants. The city has recently built some new facilities, and there is a fabulous new park adjacent to the new City Hall. It's truly wonderful, as it's like living in a city, but with the country five minutes away.
