Overview
(edit)
Dallas is small suburb 33 miles northwest of Atlanta. Founded in 1852, it was named for George Mifflin Dallas, Vice-President of the United States under President James Knox Polk. Prior to its founding, Dallas was a crossroads of Cherokee Indian paths, and the abundance of natural springs brought settlers into the area. In May 1864, Dallas was the site of intensive fighting during the Atlanta Campaign of the Civil War. The Confederate forces held firm at Dallas, New Hope Church and Pickett's Mill, forcing the Union Army east towards Kennesaw. Currently, the city has about 8,000 people, although Paulding County, which includes the city of Hiram and Braswell, is much larger. The median income for households is $38,000.

Dallas is little city northeast of Atlanta. Nothing was there 15 years ago, and then folks started moving out that way. You can live inexpensively, basically average prices for apartments. But there's nothing to do in Dallas. There's a theatre downtown, but basically you need to drive to Marietta or Douglasville for shopping. The schools are mediocre and culture, forget it. You'll have to hop in the car. If you want quiet living and mundane landscape, Dallas is fine. But for the same money, there are plenty of other suburbs with more restaurants, pubs, stores, and theatres. Crime is average for the state, and is certainly better than Atlanta. But you can get the same level of safety or better in other suburbs.
