Overview
(edit)
Located on the North bank of the Mississippi River, Cottage Grove is an upper income area of about 33,000 residents. It's just 14 miles south of St. Paul. Like most of this part of the country, it was settled by Europeans in the 1840s, most of whom became dairy farmers. Most jobs in this town now are associated with retail, administrative positions, or professionals. Median income is about $78,000 while the number for the state is $57,000. The median value of homes is $240,232.

Cottage Grove is a small bedroom community to St. Paul. You can find a few apartments in the area ranging from $700 to $1,000. You can find more apartments in St. Paul and some surrounding communities. Apartment dwellers in Cottage Grove will pay a little more for rent than most towns of this size. However, this area is an upper income community. It's very safe, clean, and organized. The recession is not any worse here, with unemployment about the same as the national average. The apartments listed are nice with some amenities. And, you're very close to St. Paul for variety in terms of entertainment and restaurants. However, this town is little on the boring side. I give it a thumbs up because the basics are adequate. But, other than the drive-in movie, there's not much going on in Cottage Grove.
