Clearwater, Florida

Clearwater, with a population of 108000, is located on the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 15 miles north of St. Petersburg and 20 miles west of Tampa, FL.  Its sparkling white, sandy beaches and crystal clear water attracts tourists and residents alike.  Clearwater is derived from the Indian word, Pocotopaug, which means "clearwater".  Clearwater's famous beaches run approximately two miles long after travelling over its scenic bridge across the Clearwater Harbor.  The Philadelphia Phillies professional baseball team hold their exhibition and spring training camp in the beautiful seaside town (Brighthouse Field). 

Countryside Mall, one of the area's largest shopping malls, is located in Clearwater.  The mall boasts the only indoor ice rink in the southeastern states.  Light industry provides a stable base of employment outside of Clearwater's predominantly tourist driven economy.  Traffic congestion can be complicated during rush hour and peak holidays due to the water system and limited access roadways.  Future plans are being budgeted to improve local traffic flow.
