Overview
(edit)
Clayton is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, with a very small portion of the town extending into Wake County.
The town was initially developed in the early 1900s, with the addition of a railroad stop and various mills. The Great Depression, along with the closing of Claytons major mills, contributed to a lull in growth in the town.
Due to Claytons proximity to Raleigh and the Research Triangle, Clayton has experienced a population boom. Many new neighborhoods are being developed every year, along with new schools and retail space.
