Loop

The Loop is the downtown district of Chicago. About 18,000 people live there. Most of the buildings are high rise, including the famous Sears Tower. You can also see City Hall, the Daley Center, and the Chicago Stock Exchange buildings there too.  It has been a place to attract archectural experimentation over the last 100 years. The Chicago River on the west and Lake Michigan on the east are its boundaries. Most people go the Magnificant Mile that lies north of this area for their shopping. But State Street has its appeal. Once a muddy street until the late 1800's, it's filled with classy upscale stores, shops, and restaurants. You can find the historic Marshal Fields store, now Macy's, among other great places. This area is a business district, but has great works of art littered throughout the landscape, including sculptures by Picasso and Marc Chagall. Grant Park is also nearby, where one can enjoy many festivals and city events.
