Overview
(edit)
Burke is a suburb of a little less than 60,000 people, and is located about 22 miles from Washington, DC. It is very much a typical suburb, and the area is growing due to the suburban sprawl of DC. It is somewhat diverse, with a population that is mostly white and Asian. A good thing about living in Burke is that there is a VRE station here, which makes commuting to DC easier. Housing in Burke is still affordable, compared to the rest of the DC area, and a family would be able to rent here without breaking the bank. One complaint of residents in this area is the heavy traffic, but that really is typical for most places in Fairfax County. Though there isn't much of a downtown area, Burke has all the every day ameneties within a short drive. The schools in Burke are part of the Fairfax County system and have above-average ratings. If you are looking for an affordable, suburban area without having a ridiculous commute, you may want to consider Burke. Young people looking for nightlife might not be happy in Burke, however, since it does not have much individuality and is better suited for families.
