Midtown has changed from a scary crime infested area in the early 1990's, to a trendy coveted neighborhood. It's close to everything and one of the few place where restaurants and shops are walkable. Piedmont Park is a focal point for midtown. It's a beautiful green space where everyone gathers on the weekends. This area is also known all over the country for its high population of gay men. So if you're not LGBT friendly, don't live here. Lots of real estate folks have invested heavily with new condos and apartments. Many are expensive, but in this economy you can negotiate. Older apartment buildings will cost less, but look carefully. If you search near Ansley Park, you can find even better deals than say a place right next to Piedmont Park. Crime and street noise can be a problem. So finding a place off the busier streets would be better. Breaking into cars is very common, so you never leave anything of value on the seats. The schools such as the Grady High cluster are quite good if you have a family. Overall, this is a great neighborhood and very attractive. However, if you want an in-town address that's a little more quiet and laid back, this busy party place might be too much.
