Dunwoody is fun and exciting if you've had your hip replaced! It's like that town from Footloose, except much less creepier than anything in Utah. And Dunwoody Village isn't much of a village as it is a shopping center with a several places to get an oil change. A REAL village must have fudge shops, panning for gold, and occasional dragon attacks. Overall, it's stuffy, arrogant, and a great place to overprotect your kid!
But really, it has its moments. The abandoned Brook Run hospital is good for a scare, the trees turn all beautiful chimney red and Halloween orange in the fall, and you are a stones throw to nine of the greatest Waffle Houses in the world. But if that isn't enough, it's location puts you within a minute's escape to any downtown hotspots, as you sit upon GA400, a couple of exits on 285, and quick access to 85.
And lastly, for all you future yuppies of the world, you may want to review DeKalb county's blue laws before considering this town a home, as it can be quite frustrating.
One of Dunwoody's most historic building dates from 1829. The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, at the corner of Roberts Dr. and Spalding Dr., is still active to this date and is also the home to one of the city's oldest cemeteries, where many of the founding fathers of Dunwoody are buried. The first public school, Dunwoody Elementary, first stood near the city center at the intersection of Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. and Mt. Vernon Rd. It was in continuous operated from 1911 to 1986. On that site today, the Dunwoody branch of the Dekalb County Public Library now operates along with the North Dekalb Cultural Arts Center. In 1881, the Roswell Railroad opened and ran along what is now Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. north to the Chatahoochee River. It operated for 40 years, and in 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt made a campaign whistle stop in Dunwoody along the way to Roswell, Georgia.[8] At midnight on December 1 of 2008, Dunwoody officially became a city after a nearly 3 year movement. In recent years Dunwoody High has developed a reputation for fostering some of the regions most innovative musical acts such as members of the Black Lips, Deerhunter, Of Montreal and Tilly and the Wall.

There are LOTS of restaurants in and around Dunwoody including the top notch ones at Perimeter Mall. My favorite is Gold Fish... their Hong Kong sea bass is incredible!!
The Dunwoody Tavern is a local favorite that has great music playing while you play pool, throw darts, or just chill at the bar with some great draft beers on tap!!! Not many 'clubs' in Dunwoody unless someone can think of some... please edit this section to add more!!!
Great value in Dunwoody due to the fact that you probably have to drive to hit the grocery store... which is no big deal. There are plenty to choose from including a Whole Foods Market and Publix right there in Dunwoody Village. Kroger is just down the street!!
Dunwoody is a great location that is really starting to be affluent.

Shop, shop, shop around. Apartment communities will be very competitive. Check out all of the accomodations and amenities each has to offer... and make sure they've got a sweet pool!!!

Murphy Candler Park also has a cool lake with trails surrounding it.
Most apartment communities allow pets up to a certain weight... just check each for their limitations. As for cats... I'm not really a cat person!

You're also about 5 minutes in all directions from the Chattahoochee River. There are lots of trails in and around the Chattahoochee National Park. I can get to a great mountain biking trail called Sope Creek in about 10 minutes heading down 285 and Powers Ferry Rd. Great 5 mi loop that's relatively technical. Stay on the main trail. I got busted the other day on a side trail... they'll take your bike!!
Perimeter Center has some great new apartments that sits within a multi-use community. There's a Target, Haverty's, and a TON of restaurants there... plus your right across the street from Perimeter Mall.

Vanderlyn Elementary School is a neighborhood school located in the heart of Dunwoody, where children are often seen riding bikes or walking to and from school. Many of the teachers and staff members live in the area, which ensures extra interest in the success of the school. There is never a time at Vanderlyn when teachers are not actively teaching and when students are not fully engaged. Learning at Vanderlyn is fun!

But really, it has its moments. The abandoned Brook Run hospital is good for a scare if you walk around some of the old buildings, otherwise, the brand new kids park and fields are great for kids of all ages! Brook Run also has a dog park where you can let your pup run free amongst the enclosed canopy of trees and trails. The trees turn all beautiful chimney red and Halloween orange in the fall, and you are a stones throw to nine of the greatest Waffle Houses in the world.
