Hood Wiki
The majority of the folks on Campbellton Road are African Americans. It's an up and coming neighborhood with viable businesses. It's just outside of Atlanta and takes about a 15 minute drive to reach downtown.
Most people go into the city, particularly midtown, for clubs and bars. But there are a few bars at the Camp Creek Market Place, and some at the Cascade exit just one exit north on I285.
It's not the best place to rent. There are plenty of other neighborhoods with more to offer and less crime. The Cascade area just north of Campbellton Road, offers nicer options and a higher clientele.
The Marta Bus system is reliable. But the train stations are further away and require a bus ride. There's plenty of parking in all the apartment complexes in the area.
I don't recommend this neighborhood to rent because there are safer and newer options all over the city. However, if you are inclined to live here, check the places out first and don't go by what is said over the phone or the internet. Many of the apartments are older and have not been updated. Also, it's important to check the crime rates in many of the complexes. You'll get good prices, but you get what you pay for generally speaking.
There are veterinary clinics in the area if you have a pet. But there aren't many sidewalks for walking dogs. And it's not a place that's really "dog friendly." You rarely seen anyone with a dog.
Greenbriar Malls lies just south of Campbellton Road and offers a variety of stores along with the Magic Johnson Movie Theatre. The theatre is state of the art and great for a night out if you live nearby. The mall is one of the oldest in the city. There is a Macy's and many other attractive looking shops. However, there are complaints of crime including gun robberies, mostly in the parking lot.
The Camp Creek Market Place just one exit south on I285 has lots of new shops and restaurants. However, the restaurants are chains so you won't find quaint and cute bistros here. It looks like shopping centers in most American Cities.
The Kroger grocery store is across the street along with drug stores, fast food chains, and smaller shops. It's a fairly new grocery store and the nicest in the area. If you hop on I285 south and get off at the very next exit, Camp Creek, you can find a Publix Grocery Store and L.A. Fitness gym along with many new shops and restaurants. For banking, there is a Wachovia and Bank of America right next to Greenbriar Mall.
Some students in this area would attend Atlanta Public School District, and some would attend Fulton County School District. For Fulton, the cluster would be Westlake, and APS would be the SR1 zone. As a former school teacher, my professional opinion is that Fulton County Schools in this area is the better choice. However, the schools on the south side are not nearly as high performing as those in the north part of the county, or as good as the schools in Buckhead and Inman Park/VA Highlands neighborhoods.
