Overview
(edit)
Acworth is a town in Cobb County, 30 miles north of Atlanta. It's nickname is the "Lake City" because it's so close to Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth. There are roughly 18,000 people living there, mostly middle class with a median income of $55.000. It was incorporated in 1860 and named by a railroad engineer, Joseph Gregg, whose hometown was Acworth, New Hampshire. During Sherman's infamous march through Georgia in the civil war, the town was burned sparing only a few homes. It's been a country town with slow growth until the late 1990's. Now the downtown area has been revitalized with shops, restaurants, and active playhouse. There are new homes and new apartment complexes with reasonable rates. It's close proximity to the Georgia Mountains and nearby lakes attracts outdoor enthusiasts who still want to reach Atlanta under an hour's drive.

Acworth is a cute town that's family friendly with reasonable living expenses. It's safe, clean, and organized. It's not the place to be if you're looking for lots of culture and trendiness. But if you want a quiet place with no drama, and your work is nearby, it's a good choice. I don't recommend it if you need to drive to Atlanta on a daily basis because the traffic on I75 is horrendous from 6 until 10 a.m. and from 4 until 7 p.m. Because it's grown tremendously in the last 10 years, apartment complexes are fairly new with great amenities, although the designs aren't terribly imaginative. There's not much diversity, but all your necessities are at arms length, and your money goes far.
